Porty is a young guitarist from Spain. Tangram is Porty's debut album. Glue Trap is the perfect way to clear Porty's intentions: the man wanna play great MUSIC, not just a guitar show. He 's got GREAT TONE, and a great technique and sound too. Everythin' he plays sound absolutely natural. He doesn't force tricks or licks in his songs, he just plays music. Porty has a great vibrato and a very good bendin' too. He's got phrasin'. Is this enough to make you understand how good he really is??? The Pickpocket starts out with some funk that will make your head and ass move. Then Porty plays some groovy lines, very melodic. As I said before, he plays for the song, so everythin' sound so damn good!!! Soooo smooth. He's also a very mature musician, as he switches to diffrent moods in the same song, masterin' all of them. Check out the clean solo, followed by a Satch-like aggro solo. Both sound so cool. Touché starts with some aerial chords with volume swells, then some percussions introduce us to a beautiful theme, consistin' in some acoustical magic. This is prolly my fave track, there's so much soul in it. Even the distorted part is perfectly fit in the song. Well done, Porty!!!!! Spotlight features some jazzy openin', with a cool melody once again. The man has tons of groove, with a syncopated style that sounds soo fresh. You can truly hear funk influences all over the place, and Porty has assimilated them all really deeply. If you think that Satch's latest albums are a bit disappointin' if compared with the aliensurfer best melodic moments, then go to www.porty-tangram.com . I think he's gonna be one of the greatest real soon. He's got them all, and to me he's already one of the best, even if he might not be so well known right now. And that's a shame, trust me. Someday is an acoustic track, with some gentle, not invasive string arrangement to make you relax more and more. Playin' Tricks has a bluesy groovy start, then that's funk time again. This album is one of the funkiest, grooviest I've ever heard. The production is also very good, and all the instruments sound so good! Cool sax solo too. Porty's solo is great too. In Small Doses is a rocky uptempo. There's so much about phrasin' to learn here too. Porty's sense of melody makes me love his playin' as much as Neil Zaza's, and you'll prolly know how much I love Zaza's playin'... A Distant Shore has some cool delay as a background, perfect for Porty syncopated melody. This young Sapanish is a MUSICIAN. 'Nuff said. =) Check out the change in mood at 3:27. Cool, ain't it? Manicure shows once again that Porty's also in love with the blues, but that's just the beginnin'. The theme is very humorous to me, would be perfect for a comic situation. His melody outlines perfectly the chord changes. And then again that bluesy riff!!! I love it! Infectious 's more angry than the other tracks, featurin' a funkymetal riff. But the chorus is melodic as always. Notice how Porty's use of pull-offs to open strings in the main riff helps him make it sooo groovy. There're tons of funk again . Mirage is an epic, romantic track that would be perfect in a movie as Braveheart (that's my two cents). I can picture beautiful scottish landscapes while hearin' it. Perfect to close such a beautiful, incredible album. I truly wonder why this guy's still virtually unknown to the masses. PURE POETRY WITH SIX STRINGS. |
